Welcome Mike Griswold - New Recreation Director

Hello there and *Virtual Pound*! My name is Mike Griswold and I am thrilled to be joining the Monmouth community as your new Recreation Director! 

 

I am very excited to build a robust and thriving recreation department that not only meets the needs of our community, but also reaches residents of all ages and walks of life. I am no stranger to the field of recreation as I have experience working in a multitude of settings such as in municipal recreation, the YMCA, being a certified physical education teacher, managing day and residential summer camps, athletic coaching, and most recently working for the State of Maine as a Youth Engagement Coordinator. I feel very motivated and passionate about putting the skills and knowledge that I've gained over the years into and for Monmouth.

 

Aside from my working background, I am no stranger to Monmouth as I reside right nearby in Winthrop my wife, Amy, and our three children Lydia, Braydon and Dorothy. Over the years, we have been directly and indirectly involved with the Monmouth community through joint youth sport programs with Winthrop as well as through the Monmouth Community Players Theater program, which my wife has served as the President of their board over the past few years. Outside of being a very outdoorsy and athletic family, we are very big advocates for all things performing arts and culture!

MyRec will serve as our main hub for all things Monmouth recreation and will be updated with programs and facility information as well as registration processes. Stay tuned for a future communication from me as I will be preparing a notice inviting interested community members to serve as part of Monmouth's Recreation Commission. More details to come!
